Caroline’s story

CASE STUDY

Ms Mugambi, experienced postnatal depression after the birth of her second son, who is now six, was supported by the charity at the time.

Following the birth of her second son and at a time when her marriage was experiencing a rocky patch, Caroline was referred to Home-Start in Suffolk for support.

Battling postnatal depression, being separated from her husband and navigating the challenges of her oldest sons additional needs became just too much to cope with alone and that’s when Home-Start stepped in.

Caroline was referred to Home-Start and a support package was developed for the family resulting in them being matched with volunteer Janet.

Janet supported the family through weekly home-visits, providing Caroline with someone to talk to, a friend to offer a listening ear and some who could share their own experiences dealing with similar challenges.

“I was really struggling.” Explains Caroline. “I had no family or friends around to support me and I just didn’t know what to do.”

“When Janet came into our lives, she made such a difference, always there to listen and be friend.  It was like taking the weight off your shoulders for a while, so you can be the parent you want to be. Her support and guidance meant so much to me.

“Janet will always hold a special place in our hearts. If I were to write a book about my life, Janet would be a big part of that.I still go to her today first to tell her important things. And I am in such a better place now.”

“Without Home-Start, I think, I would have fallen into a deep depression.  Fortunately, I didn’t and that’s thanks to Janet.”
